This contest is open to 9th through 12th grade students in any school.

Artwork is divided into two classes:
Class I is 9th and 10th grade students Class II is 11th and 12th grade students

Four categories of art medium are:

a. Paint - oils and acrylics

b. Drawing - pen and ink, pencil, colored pencil

c. Multi-medium; including crayon, crapac, pastel, chalk, charcoal, scratch art

d. Watercolor


1. Artwork must be original. It may be completed in an art class, in a school, or in a private home. The supervision of an art teacher is not required. Student must be sponsored by a GFWC of Arkansas club.

2. All entries must be accompanied by a completed official Ten Penny Entry Form which has been securely attached to the top back of the artwork. Information must be legibly printed. Work will be disqualified if not filled out properly.

3. Oils and acrylics are to be framed in a plain frame. Entries in any other medium are to be matted or framed- No glass.

4. Entries will be judged on their composition, color, imagination, and neatness.

5. Size of picture not to exceed 22" x 25''.

6. Sponsoring clubs may bring one art entry in each category in each class (total of 8) to their District Spring Convention. Each District manages its own Ten Penny Art Contest. The District winners, one first place winner in each category under each class (8), may be taken to the State Spring Convention. Entries must be delivered to State Ten Penny Art Chairman by at least 9 a.m. on the first day of Convention. If possible, bring them the evening before. All pieces of art brought in by each District or club should be listed on a sheet of paper and checked to make sure what all is there before the art is turned in to the chairman. This checklist of entries should be rechecked when picked up after the convention to make sure each piece of art goes home with the correct club. DO NOT MAIL ENTRIES. Judging will be done the first day of convention by a qualified art judge.

7. GFWC of Arkansas will award $25 to the first place winner in each category and class (8).

8. Chairmen and any others handling the entries will exert great care, but they cannot be held responsible for damage or loss of any entries, either in transit or on show. The chairman is not responsible for the return of the pictures to the exhibitors and cannot pack, mail, or store pictures.
