AUDREY SWOPE YOUTH SHORT STORY AND POETRY CONTESTS
(Grades K-12)

Categories are: I—Grades K, 1 and 2 III—Grades 6, 7, and 8
  II—Grades 3, 4, and 5 IV—Grades 9, 10, 11 and 12

RULES AND PROCEDURES

  1. Authors must be of amateur status; earnings from writings must not exceed $500 annually.
  2. Manuscripts entered may not have been published prior to the competition and must be original work of the author.
  3. Entries must be typewritten, double-spaced, minimum margins of 1", one side only, on 8-1/2 x 11" paper.
  4. Entries must have been written during the contest year.
  5. Short stories are limited to 2000 words. Poems can be any style with a minimum length of eight lines and a maximum of 30 lines.
  6. Entries must have the following in the top right hand corner of each page: author's name, address, email address, telephone number; grade and age; name of local club and state, and title of manuscript.
  7. Manuscripts will not be returned. Authors should keep a copy.
  8. Clubs may send one entry per contest. If there is no District contest, send directly to State Chairman before March 15. National entries are sent from the state on or before April 1.
  9. A completed and signed GFWC Creative Arts Waiver must be submitted with each entry.
